Sustainable Skincare: Face Scrubs

Today, we are going to talk about Sustainable Skin Care: Face Scrubs. If you are a regular reader of Glow & Green, then you know we preach "Sustainability" almost every day.

While our purpose here is not just to teach, I would like us all to implement it in our day to day lives. For that reason, our skincare section consists of the best eco-friendly products & recipes, which include "Blend-It-By yourself," aka BIB recipes.

Today, I would like to share three easy but gentle, sustainable skincare recipes for the face. These recipes will remove dead cells, provide a brightening effect, and unclog your skin’s pores. You can easily buy all the ingredients in the grocery store or on Amazon.

Also, all three recipes are so easy because you can change the ingredients to make it another face scrub. At the store, these face scrubs are sold for more than $20, and the quality you get is not satisfactory.

So let's get started with Sustainable Skin Care: Face Scrubs:

Recipe: Green Tea Face Scrub

Things you need:

  • 1/4 cup Kukui Nut Oil (buy it from here)

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil

  • 1 1/2 cup Rapadura Sugar

  • 8 tbsp. Green Tea Matcha Powder

  • 10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

Method:

Mix sugar and matcha powder together really well. Put it aside. Now in another bowl, mix coconut oil and kukui nut oil. Gradually start pouring this green team mixture into the oils. Mix it well, and that's it!

Shelf Life: 2-3 months!

Benefits of Green Tea Matcha Powder: Green tea matcha powder contains chlorophyll, a powerful detoxifier, and antioxidants.

It is the best when it comes to anti-pollution skincare ingredients, because it removes harmful toxins and fights against free radicals. It is an excellent face scrub for acne-prone skin.

Recipe: Orange Face Scrub

Things you need:

  • 1/4 cup Kukui Nut Oil (buy it from here)

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil

  • 1 1/2 cup Rapadura Sugar

  • 8 tbsp. Sun-dried Orange Peel Powder

  • 10 drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Method:

Save all the orange peels after you eat. Make sure they are washed. Sun dry them until they are dehydrated. The water in the orange peels needs to be evaporated fully.

You can also roast the orange peels at 280 degrees F in the oven for 30-40 min. I prefer sun-dried ones. Once the orange skins are dehydrated, grind them in a grinder.

Mix sun-dried orange peel powder into sugar. In another bowl, add kukui nut oil and coconut oil. Now gradually stir the orange peel mixture into the oils. Voila! Your face scrub is ready!!

Shelf Life: 2-3 months!

The Benefits of Sun-Dried Orange Peel Powder: Sun-dried orange peel powder contains vitamin C and oil control properties. It is excellent for skin brightening and lightening because it acts against hyperpigmentation. It also helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Recipe: Beetroot Scrub

Things you need:

  • 1/4 cup Kukui Nut Oil (buy it from here)

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil

  • 1 1/2cup Rapadura Sugar

  • 8 tbsp. Beetroot Peel Powder

  • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Method:

After you make your beetroot salad, save the peels for the Scrub. Put peels into an oven-safe plate and dehydrate them at 280 degrees F for 10-15 min.

Make sure you don't burn them. Once the skin is dehydrated, grind them in a grinder. Mix oven-dried beetroot peel powder into the sugar.

In another bowl, add together the kukui nut and coconut oils. Now gradually mix the beetroot peel mixture into the oils. And your face scrub is ready.

Shelf Life: 2-3 months!

Benefits of Oven-Dried Beetroot Peel Powder: Sun-dried beetroot peel powder contains folate, potassium, vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants.

It helps smooth out the skin and clears the pores. It is a high-quality ingredient when it comes to dry skin.
