At Glow & Green, we preach and teach about sustainable solutions as well as self-care rituals. In the past, I mentioned how to break down sustainable self-care.
But I have never mentioned any particular tools to achieve sustainable self-care. These tools can be anything. They can be a powerful meditation app, a beauty regimen, or personalized, sustainable beauty products.
Today, I want to share a DIY sustainable beauty product: Almond night cream. I want to show you how easily and effectively you can personalize your night cream with very few pantry ingredients.
I firmly believe that getting customized skincare products according to your skin type makes you feel that you are using some top-notch luxury products on your skin.
So, this is a butter-based recipe that gives you cream-like texture without having to get into complicated ingredient mixing. With this recipe, I would like to encourage everyone to use waterless and potent skincare products.
This recipe contains shea butter, almond oil, and blue tansy essential oil. Shea Butter imparts a wonderfully creamy and moisturizing quality, while almond oil is an excellent natural emollient, which hydrates your facial skin.
It supplies necessary vitamins (A & C) and lipid oils to particularly sensitive areas of the skin such as under the eyes, below the lips, etc. Blue tansy essential oil comes from an annual yellow-flowered Mediterranean plant.
This plant is high in chamazulene and sabinene. It offers antioxidant and anti-inflammatoryproperties, so you see it used to calm the skin, reduce heat, and relieve delicate or troubled skin. All three of the ingredients in this recipe are plant-based.
This plant-based, environmentally friendly beauty product will be your favorite product in your nighttime regimen.
We call this recipe sustainable because it doesn’t harm people or the planet during ingredient production/manufacturing. It is also economical and gives your skin lots of benefits. So before further ado, I would like to share this recipe.
Sustainable Beauty Product Recipe: Almond Night Cream
To make this you need:
· 2 oz Shea Butter (Get fair-trade unrefined shea butter from Amazon)
· 2 oz Almond Oil (use cold-pressed)
· 25 drops of Blue Tansy Oil
The process to make this night cream:
Measure out shea butter & almond oil. Now mix both oil & butter in a heat-resistant bowl. After that, using a bain-marie, melt the butter & oil mixture until it turns into liquid (you can also use the microwave). Now keep this mixture at room temperature for 10-15 min.
Add 25 drops of blue tansy oil and mix it well. Once the temperature is a little stabilized or cooled down, put this mixture into the freezer for 10 min. When you see the edge of the mix start to freeze a little, it is time to blend. Using a hand mixer, mix it until it turns into a smooth batter.
Put this mixture back into the freezer for another 10 min. After 10 min. your night cream is done! Store this cream in a bottle.
We prefer amber color jars, but any other bottles will work fine as well. Make sure you keep it at least 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit. This night cream is suitable for all skin types.
